Boeing 777
Taking a UA 777 LA to London first time. Seat chart shows I'm right next to 4 restrooms in the middle of the plane - my inclination is to call and see if I can move as I assume this would be an area where people would always be standing around?? Also does anyone know if 777's have the video on the back of the seat with selections in coach rather than screens and everyone sees the same thing? -helps in deciding how much reading material to take. THANKS

Flew American 777 from Dallas to London, and each coach seat did have a screen in front of it to select television shows or movies. Not that many people really standing around the restrooms. I would try to get a seat with no seats in front of you for extra leg room. Don't know about United. Have a great time.

Janelle,
We have flown the 777 overseas (Continental), have been in those seats and consider them the next best thing to first class. While the travel books always say to stay away from the rest rooms, we did not find this to be problem at all. There was never a line, no odor problems, and there is a huge amount of room - at least in the Continenal configuration - every airline designs planes a little differently. If you are on the side, you have the most room with nothing in front of you -- far more room than a normal bulkhead seat, and no wall in your face. You are next to a major exit, so you have to agree to help in case of emergency, just like emergency row seats. My husband is 6'2, and always has tremendous problems with leg room in coach. We love these seats. Yes, you have your own TV so you choose your personal viewing. I'd talk to a UA agent about the UA 777 configuration to be sure of details.

Good luck!

Just returned LA to London by UA 777, and agree that these seats will be good. Yes, UA do have individual video screens on the back of seats in coach. My one disappointment with UA after flying AA in 2001 was the pathetic leg-room. It is the worst that I've had apart from charter 737's - and I've got short legs! If you do request a move, try middle seats immediately behind the restroom walls in the same part of the plane. These have extra legroom and the video screens are on your arm-rest - but you'd have to give up a window seat.
