Blumenball questions for Molker

Hi Molker,

When I was asking about some other balls last year (I will write that very belated trip report soon), you suggested arriving one day earlier for Blumenball, and I was not able to do so then, but I will finally be going this year.

Where will the entrance for the ball be? When I took a guided tour of Rathaus last year, we went around the north (Felderstrasse) side of the building and entered through a side or back door. Is that the door for the ball too, or is there another entrance on Rathausplatz?

Is the coat room on the ground floor, so one can get rid of coats and boots before making a grand entrance up the gorgeous staircase?

Will you be attending next week?

Thanks again for suggesting this ball.

Hello MademoiselleFifi !

Great that you return to Vienna ! I hope that my prior advice regarding Balls I think worked for you.

As you already know several entrances to the Rathaus.

To the general direction east - towrd the Ringstrasse - Rathausplatz.

The winter ice skating rink is now being built in this immediate area and I doubt that this will be used.

To the west is Friedrich Schmidt Platz ( he the building designer ) who you probably found the Information Office Tour center.

Most probably the one you describe on the north Felderstrasse will be used - this with a way on the Grand Staircase to the Festsaal and other rooms used for the Ball.
Using this stairway , you will find on the Mezzanine a very large coat room ( here known as the Garderobe )
coats and boots - no trouble - Bring some euro coins for payment -
As you probably know - no real line for the deposit of coats etc. - do not be afraid to push a little to keep your place.

Main activities in the Festsaal but music and more in various other rooms too.

Perhaps they also will use the entrance on the south side - Lichtenfelgasse - this quite similar to the north side and you arrive at the same Hall.

Unfortunately , we go on a ski vacation beginning this coming weekend.

January finds fewer people , lower accomodation cost and now some good amounts of snow too.

Enjoy Vienna and the Ball.

Then up to the festivities - a grand entrance

Thank you for the detailed information!

I found on their email that the place to pick up tickets is on Lichtenfelgasse, so maybe there will be an entrance on that side.

Lichtenfelgasse as you probably already know - south side - that toward the Parliament building-

I believe you find a similar Grand staircase there -to mezzanine coat check and upward to the Featsaal.

Take some time to look to the many floral decorations -
most probably the Vienna Mayor will make a welcome greeting speech - note ebenings here can continue long into the morning hours.

BTW, Herr Molker, let me take this opportunity to say a big, heartfelt "THANK YOU!" for all the information on the balls last year! I was MademoiselleFifi's dance partner on that trip, and we found your advice extremely helpful.

Alas, I couldn't take time off from work this year, so no Blumenball for me. Someone like MademoiselleFifi will never have her dance card going empty, though, so I'm eagerly (and enviously) awaiting her report.
