Blair Castle or Scone Palace

If you could only pick one of these to go to which would you and why?

OK-We didn't make it to Blair, but it is supposed to be one of the best in Scotland. We DID make it to Scone which was great...but not the most spectacular of our visit. Helpful? Probably not!

I have been to both and they are both very good. You cannot go wrong with either one.

Well - a lot depends on where you are coming from and where you are enroute to . . . .

But all things being equal - Blair Atholl would be the better of the two. It is pretty unique.

They're very different. And tastes differ.

Me, I'd choose Blair Atholl because of

1. the spectacular location
2. It's a castle not a palace
3. It's a Stewart Castle at that (maiden name)
4. I love the romntic thing about the army.
5. Lord Mansefield's a Tory and I don't like lining his pocket. The Duke of Atholl might be too, but, hey, where would we be without our prejudices?

There is one other thing that I thought of. If you go to Blair Atholl, there is a small shopping center nearby that includes House of Bruar. House of Bruar is the best place I know in Scotland to shop for the tweedy country clothing that is unique to the UK. They also have very cute teddy bears in wellies prepared for hill walking.

I skipped the country clothing, but did bring home a bear.
