Birthday Dinner
I need some advice or ideas on a memorable dinner venue/ city to visit for my 60th birthday in 2016. I will be travelling to Europe next July to October, with my husband. My birthday is in October and I want somewhere memorable for my birthday. I spent my birthday last year at the Eiffel Tower which was lovely.
I live in Australia, so travelling to Europe doesn't happen too often.
Looking forward to your suggestions.
Regards,
Marea

II have no idea what the food is like, but I have always fancied a meal in the Euromast in Rotterdam. You can even book one of two suites and stay the night too, with a spectacular view of Rotterdam.
I'm 60 next October too, but can't begin to plan where or even if to celebrate it yet.

Happy Birthday to all Librans!
Re Jules Verne, perhaps similar in that a view would be awesome. I'd prefer to remember the venue than turning 60!!!
I love the suggestions so far as I wouldn't have thought of Rotterdam or Belgium. Any more?

I would say either Spain (San Sebastian) or one of the Scandinavian capitals. The former is well known for fabulous eateries and the latter has a lot of media attention at the mo, with a big focus on foraged foods, great smoked fish and meats, or meats cooked over open fires.

If you really wanted to push the boat out you could consider a trip on the Hurtigruten in Norway. Let them know it's your birthday and the crew will sing the Norwegian birthday song for you (complete with a little dance), and if the gods are kind you may get the northern lights to put on a show too!
Here's the Euromast website btw: http://www.euromast.nl/en

There is Gordon Ramsay's joint in Tuscany, Castelo Monastero, which is actually set into an entire restored medieval borgo with sweeping views of the Tuscan wine country, and with spa treatments etc. But there are other castles/wine estates that are notable venues and full-on luxury hotels with luxury services as well as views: Castel Banfi and Borgo San Pietro pop to mind. October can be a colorful time to go to Tuscany, or it can be raining.

I read this article a few days back and thought the restaurant in Ravello would be spectacular. Amalfi coast should have a few others to pick from as well.
