Bilboa to Madrid

I'd like some advice on whether it makes sense to drive from Bilboa to Madrid rather than take the train. Not in a big hurry, but is it a worthwhile drive? Scenic? Good place to stop for a bit? Thanks so much.

Many thanks. I'm thinking even the beautiful cathedral isn't enough to make me want to drive 5 boring hours.

I have another thread running currently that talks about this drive; I will drive from Madrid through Burgos to the coast. There is information there about stopovers.

Thanks IMDonehere for the Bilbao correction. I knew it, but not well enough, it seems, and now I won't make that mistake again.

And ekscrunchy thanks so much for the link to your great thread. I am studying it at length.

You're welcome. If you have an overnight en route, you might think about staying in or near Sepulveda, which is a handsome town not very far from the highway. If you want more info, just ask.

I stopped in because I love Bilbao, Burgos and Madrid. We're all so different. I read 5 hours and thought, "ah, easy morning drive -- I'm there by noon. "

Enjoy your trip!
