Bilboa to Madrid

I'd like some advice on whether it makes sense to drive from Bilboa to Madrid rather than take the train. Not in a big hurry, but is it a worthwhile drive? Scenic? Good place to stop for a bit? Thanks so much.

Margent:

Easy and long drive, some 5 hours maybe....not very scenc as far as I remember, but yu can made a stob at Burgos, a pretty city with a Cathedral secon to none in the world. If you drive, made this stop and see the Cathedral.Beautiful!!!

Many thanks. I'm thinking even the beautiful cathedral isn't enough to make me want to drive 5 boring hours.

Please note it is spelled Bilbao and pronounced bil-BOW like in wow.

I have another thread running currently that talks about this drive; I will drive from Madrid through Burgos to the coast. There is information there about stopovers.

Thanks IMDonehere for the Bilbao correction. I knew it, but not well enough, it seems, and now I won't make that mistake again.

And ekscrunchy thanks so much for the link to your great thread. I am studying it at length.

You're welcome. If you have an overnight en route, you might think about staying in or near Sepulveda, which is a handsome town not very far from the highway. If you want more info, just ask.

I stopped in because I love Bilbao, Burgos and Madrid. We're all so different. I read 5 hours and thought, "ah, easy morning drive -- I'm there by noon. "

Enjoy your trip!
