I will preface this message by saying that no I haven't cycled in Clare, but I did do Dingle and the Ring a few years back. I used a Lonely Planet guidebook and a Rand-McNally map of Ireland and it went off like clock work. I could see doing a trip originating in Ennis up through the Burren and either up or down the coast. After my trip, I couldn't believe how smoothly things went as the Irish are very friendly and accommodating and the rural areas are ideal for cycling. That time of year would be ideal also as the tourist traffic would be low and you could be more flexible with choosing a place to stay. I would recommend carrying your trip out to Inisheer for an overnight as you can catch the ferry from Doolin. I am excited just thinking about this trip. Good luck and I hope that I was somewhat helpful. I found my map at, surprise, a map store, but you could probably locate one on the internet.

Kathy,

I've not biked around that part of Clare, but you might consider clicking over to Amazon.com. They've got a book for about $10 and some change that features some biking tours thoroughout much of Ireland, including Clare. Perhaps there are maps included. Its title? Ireland by Bike...21 Tours, by Robin Krause.

Should that book not be of assistance, Amazon has at least one other that might help.

Best of luck.
