Did you find the large Paris map? I saw one in Architectual Digest, Sept 2005, page 56...I'd like to get one too. Saw your post when I did a search.

Michelin sells large laminated maps of Paris that are very nice. The RATP sells official Métro and RER maps just like the ones you see in the subway, also laminated and very nice. The IGN sells large satellite photos of the city as well.

AnthonyGA, I can't find a link on either Michelin or RATP for the maps you mention. Can you provide more information? Thanks.

I bought a large metro map like they have in stations at the Maison de la RATP by the Gare de Lyon, in their souvenir shop which also sells a limited amount of metro-themed stuff - t-shirts, pins, etc. They also have a small museum with changing exhibits of old metro cars, future ones, etc.

Thanks PalQ. I was hoping to find a way to order on-line but it looks like I'll have to wait (and hope!) for another trip. Do you remember the price?

There's also an RATP shop at Châtelet where they sell every map, book, trinket, and doodad that they've ever printed an M on. Here's the web site:

http://www.ratp.fr/corpo/boutique/

RE: Speed. Microsoft AutoRoute allows you to specify whether you drive above or below the posted limit, and by how much. It computes your time-to-distance based on the adjusted value.

They sell "everything" (specifically, maps) at the shop at Chatelet - - that's what you mean to say, right? I can't find ay map for sale on that web site which you have cited.

Not sure I'm in the market for any such map, but interested to take a look-see.

Best wishes,

Rex

What I mean to say is: "There's also an RATP shop at Châtelet where they sell every map, book, trinket, and doodad that they've ever printed an M on."

Sorry for the confusion.

Sounds like i gotta track down the Chatelet RATP shop - the one at Maison de la RATP has limited stuff and doesn't always have everything. For example it often has detailed maps of several sections of Paris and suburbs that show transit lines and very detailed streets as well - super large-scale maps that are free - about a dozen in the series. But they don't always have them - maybe Chatelet does. thanks for the reference - i didn't know about Chatelet shop.

I read this post just ahead of a trip to Paris, where we were renting an apartment.

To my astonishment, there was a framed Plan de Paris over the sofa in our living room there! It was just a fold-out Michelin (with the yellow background) in a simple red wood frame, but looked absolutely fabulous.

I got the one Orval mentioned - and is it ever beautiful. 4 separate pieces, black frame(s), matted, and surrounded by several of my own 8x10 color photos taken in Paris - framed in the same manner. each map sheet is about 19x25 so as you can imagine this all covers a lot of ground!

they use quality stock for their prints. if you want to get old maps of many different cities, this is a good place to look.

By the way - if you'd like to download a fairly low-quality copy of the Turgot Plan de Paris 1739, it is available here:

I forgot to mention that if you want all twenty sheets, click on the index sheet and they will appear.

I thought everyone may like to see what I did with it...

I just got a sofa table so the lamps may not be where they are going to ultimately end up, ditto, I may get a different colored sofa and put this one in my family room, but for now this is what it looks like!

Flygirl, it is wonderful that you ordered and framed the map(s). For some reason, I thought all along that you wanted to put them together in one big Paris frame...but of course it is considerably large...if framed together, and requires a big space so as not to encompass the entirety of the room...I am glad you enjoy it...

In answer to a question much earlier on this thread, the Michelin store is at 14, avenue de l'Opéra in Paris. It is one of only two Michelin boutiques in the world, from what I understand. It sells large laminated verions of its excellent Paris map that look very nice on a wall.

Also, as previously indicated, you can buy official RATP Métro maps, identical to the ones actually framed on the walls in the Métro stations. They are available at the RATP's one and only boutique at the huge Châtelet_Les Halles Métro/RER station.
