bicycle tours - Paris Rando Vélo
Hi, has anyone tried Paris Rando Vélo's bicycle tours? I got this information off www.parisinfo.com
"All year round, on Friday evenings, except when it rains, Paris Rando Vélo offers: Free bicycle tours on an authorised itinerary through Paris, escorted by volunteers...Booking not required. Departure at 10pm from the Hôtel de Ville esplanade, return at 0.30am.
Also on the 3rd Sunday of every month from 10.30am to 1.30pm. Bicycles can be hired on the spot."
There's also a website, but only in French, <http://www.parisrandovelo.com/>. If you know how to read French, can you please let me know of the following,
-is it really free? (I saw some prices on their website but couldn't understand if those are for private tours or not)
-how much are the bike rentals?
-will the guide be speaking in French/English?
Many thanks!!!

Without going too deep into the site, it appears that this is the outfit that organizes the mass bicycle rides through Paris on Friday evenings. It's not really a tour in the sense that anyone tells you anything, it's a ride along a specified route along with hundreds of other riders, some staffers, and a police escort.
The advantage is that traffic stops for them and you get to see Paris at night, from a bike point of view. It is free, and they have a bike rental option that requires you to go to the shop beforehand, rent the bike and return it the next morning, for 6E.

Shellio, thanks for the info. Since it looks like you know how to read the French website, can I ask for one more quick question. You mentioned that we can go to the "shop" before hand to rent the bikes. Where exactly is this "shop" located, and when can we return it in the morning. Many thanks in advance!!!
Dina4, please tell me more about that rollerblading night!! My boyfriend heard of it from friends, but we couldn't find any details. Thanks!

Rollerblading - www.pari-roller.com, but you'll need to get your dictionary out. The link "parcours" at the top gives you the route for each week (not usually released until a couple of days beforehand), and the link "randonnée" on the left gives you previous weeks' routings.
As for the bikeshop, the randovelo site gives no details beyond referring to "our Roue Libre shop", and a Google on "Roue Libre" turns up the following site run by the Paris transport authorities:
http://www.rouelibre.fr/anglais/index.php
(who also do guided bike tours as well as hire).
I assume that's what's meant, but you could always email either or both.

More on the rollerblading for LeeLeeLee: there's a videoclip of one Friday night last June at
http://www.patrickwallace.me.uk/france.htm
(and you can see a still at picture 54 on the list).
Sorry the page takes a time to load: you can get direct to the video at:
http://www.patrickwallace.me.uk/imag...roller-web.mpg
and my description of it is:
From the Tour Montparnasse, promptly at 10pm every Friday night (weather permitting) roller-bladers tour Paris until the early hours (see 'parcours' at www.pari-roller.com for the route). The police - some on rollerblades themselves - stop the traffic at each junction for just as long as it takes for the roller-bladers to cross. This being Paris, it cannot have been more than two or three minutes before the held-up traffic starting honking away, to be met by whistles and boos, but the hundreds of rollerbladers were past in barely 10 minutes.

Here is an American bike tour company. We took the Segway tour from them and they were really great!
