Isn't this Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin, taken from the east and facing into the American sector ...? (Not that the American sector exists any more, it's all Berlin nowadays).

I'm practicing my German the lazy way at present - so I watched "Goodbye Lenin" the other night auf Deutsch..............a classic.

Gosh I love that film.

I drove through Checkpoint Charlie in 1972 in a VW van. The East Germans went through the van with a fine toothed comb both on the way in and out.

I was just 18 and so were my 2 traveling companions... East Berlin was so depressing that we left after only a couple of hours.
