Best Way to See Italy & Greece?

I am pretty late on this thread and I am a dedicated DIT kind of person. However having said that last October we took a cruise because it got us to several locations where we have already been to and we wanted to see again.
It also had a couple of new stops for us Malta, Naples and Sicily. As a result of that we were able to determine if these were stops where we would want to come back to at a future date.
So a cruise can be an excellent way for a first timer to get around and see new things.
You could fly into Rome and spend some time there then take your cruise from Rome or perhaps one out of Venice so you get to see two of the top Italian destinations. Many of the Italian cruises include several Greek stops. You will probably see Athens, Kushadashi (not Greek I know) Mykonos for Delos and of course Santorini.
