Best way to reach cruise ship after landing at Marco Polo airport?
Can you help me? Woud it be best to purchase the transfers from Princess to get from Marco Polo airport to the cruise ship? Or, should we make our own arrangements by water taxi or ?? just 2 of us each with suitcases (probably 4 total) to arrive this July and we speak English. Thanks for your help.

Well - we don;t know where your ship will be - there are several options for Venice. Nor do we know what the line charges for transfers.
It's probbly easiest to just take the cruise line arrangements - unless the water taxi is much less ( wouldn;t think likely) or you want to tour around in the taxi before going to the ship's pier.

Since cruise ships routinely dock in several different places I agree with going with the known. OK, the cruise line is making a profit from it but starting off a vacation going nuts about where the ship might be and how to get there does not bode well for success IMO.

It is easy to do the transfer on your own. Just ask your cruiseline which of the 2 terminals you will be docked at. You take a bus from the airport to the Termini and then a Vaporetta to the ship dock. It should be around $10 pp if my memory is still intact. Just do a google search for "Cruise ship docks in Venice". The 2 terminals are Maritima and San Basilia. San Basilia has a vaporetta stop right there. Venice is very special and you will love it. We are cruising from there in November and will be doing our own transfers. Have FUN !! When do you go?

I'll admit I'm fairly new to this site, but I have been curious as to why people respond to a query by saying "I don't know." Isn't that what we're all saying when we don't respond at all? If I wrote "I don't know" as a reply to all the questions I really know nothing about, I would be doing nothing else all day.

Thank you for the information which was helpful. I found out that the Princess is docked at Marittima. Do you know if taking a water taxi for 2 with luggage would be too expensive? The Princess charges $35 each for transfers from airport to ship. If you've done this on your own, I would appreciate your advice.

In terms of distance from the airport, the cost of a water taxi shouldn't be much different than to P. San Marco--around 80 euro for up to 6 people. If there are other cruisers on your flight you could split the cost.
But I don't know where the water taxis are allowed to dock--exactly how close they'd get you to your ship. Maybe someone else knows that part.

We've been to Venice several times, but when we were embarking on a small ship cruise (probably a different dock from one you will use) we found a land taxi to be the most convenient. And, of course, not nearly as expensive as the water taxi. However, after the cruise we shared a water taxi with two couples to our various hotels. We were dropped off last so it was a treat!

Thank you to those of you who had positively answer this posting. I have always found very good sources and information at this site.
I am also landing at MP to go on a Princess cruise in July. If you do the math, it would be much cheaper to take the bus for 3 euros to Piazzale Roma, and then either walk or take a short taxi ride(maybe 10 euros?)to Marittima terminal. The website listed in one of the postings is very helpful.

Hope the OP has allowed a cushion between his/her ETA at the airport and when they need to be at the ship. In fact, I'd arrive a day early in Venice (not a bad idea ever). When we flew into Marco Polo Airport, our luggage was missing along with that of several people who were leaving immediately on a cruise. We were staying in Venice; our luggage arrived by the next evening. Don't know what happened to the cruise people. (This was a flight from Schiphol. I understand they've improved up their baggage transfer problems.)

I'm searching the boards trying to find the name of a water taxi company that will take you from the airport, through the canalsa and a short tour of Venice. Then to the ship. Does anyone know? thanks

You can hire a water taxi right there at the Marco Polo Airport boat dock to take you to the cruise ship, or you can make a reservation through a number of water taxi websites-here are a couple you can look at:
