Best way to get to Florence from Rome?

What is the best way to get to Florence from Rome airport? Is it a hassle getting to high speed train? Easier to fly? I will be traveling in June when the Florence airport should be open. Suggestions please.

It all depends on when your flight arrives in Rome. It's not a hassle, but it will take you 65 to 95 minutes to get your bags, clear passport control/costoms and make it to Termini. The train to Florence is 95 minutes. Schedules are on trenitalia.it

Best wishes,

Rex

I've got the same question...I need to give someone very straightforward directions on getting from the airport (FCO) to the train station to catch a train to Florence. I've printed out the train schedule for her, but was looking for transportation options from the airport to the train station.

Thanks!

There is a direct train from Fiumicino Airport to Termini Station called the Leonardo Express costing 9.50E. Train runs every 30 mins from 6:37 to 23:37 everyday, check the trenitalia site for more info.

Are flights to FCO cheaper than to FLR that you'd go to Rome and get right on the train to Florence?

You can book a through ticket from FCO to Florence, changing to the Eurostar at Roma Termini.

€ 39 (2nd cl)
€ 52 (1st cl)

Journey time: appr. 2.5 hrs

Hope this helps ...

Usually.

Somtimes you can fly into Pisa for about the same price as Rome.

Be aware that Termini is huge. It is a long long walk from where the train from FCO arrives to the Florence train. At least 2-3 blocks, albeit underground. The signs are also terrible so it's easy to get lost.
