I'd take a shuttle. It is a lot less expensive & you order it ahead of time so it is waiting for you when you arrive. Taxis charge extra for each bag you have too. Try one of these - I've used both of them & Leader is a little less expensive. It's door to door service both to & from CDG.

The original poster asked what the "best way" is to get from the airport to the city. That question doesn't have an answer (that means anything) absent a definition of "best."
Some people like luxury, and cost is not a consideration. Others want low cost and aren't worried about fatigue (either lack of sleep or manhandling luggage). Some put a premium on simplicity if it doesn't cost too much.
I think we owe it to heymo to point out that there are six ways to go, and the "best" one is an individual decision. I find it presumptious in the extreme to inflict one's personal prejudices on anyone else's situation.

We were planning on taking a taxi from CDG to the Louvre area. I definitely won't be in any shape to deal with a train or bus, but
I thought since there were 4 of us with 4 bags, it would actually be cheaper than a shuttle or private car service. (arriving Tues afternoon, 3pm)
Am I wrong???
Thanks,
Dina

I'd like an expert to answer your question becuase I've never done it, but I've READ that taxis can be as little as 38 eur and as much as 60, depending on traffic.
I'm planning to stick with a taxi, I think.

seems like a taxi is more than logical for so many people.. convenient, and even if it DID cost the same, no comparison.
however.. i wonder how often one gets stuck in bad traffic, turning a taxi into an economic nightmare?

Whether one gets stuck in traffic or not is purely the luck of the draw. If you do, repeat this phrase: "I will not whine...I will not whine..." as the meter steadily advances.
You can check ratp.fr for "Embouteillages" to see generally how traffic flows in and around Paris. It would make sense to view it at the time of day you will be on the road.
Keep in mind that the shuttles, buses, and trains all charge a fixed price no matter how long the trip takes.

Every means of transport from the airport into Paris has its up and its down side.
There seem to be a lot of people here who will spend a million to save a dime. A taxi from the airport is probably the easiest thing and most convenient way. It can also turn out to be the most expensive.
The final answer depends on how much possible cost vs. convenience means to YOU.

A taxi did indeed turn into a nightmare my first trip. An accident...
AirFrance from Philadelphia gets in around 6:10; customs, etc., getting the luggage, on the road say...7'ish...RUSH HOUR... 90 Euro's later, we were deposited at the hotel.
That said, I still think if one can afford it, it is the way to go.
Since I'm pretty much on a budget, I enjoyed the Airfrance Bus into the City THEN a cab to the hotel.
