Very good, Sheila! And it looks like Robin & I think alike (regarding alternatives).
Three places I especially like are the Pont des Arts, the graceful wooden footbridge over the Seine; the moody and romantic pool in front of the Medici Fountain in the Luxembourg Gardens; and the garden at the Musee Rodin.

Anywhere on the Left Bank, but preferably the 5th, on a busy side street with lots of cafes, at night after a few drinks and an argument, when you jump up and storm off, he follows you, grabs you, spins you around, then his arm encircles your waist and he pulls you tightly up against him at which point you kiss until you sprain your lips. That's what I did! It was great!

I've posted this before, but why not again here...
Young love was kissing under bridges
Kissing in cars kissing in cafes
And we were walking down Main Street
Kisses like bright flags hung on holidays
In France they kiss on Main Street
Amour, mama, not cheap display
And we were rolling, rolling, rock 'n' rolling
-- "In France They Kiss On Main Street" by Joni Mitchell (from the 1975 album The Hissing Of Summer Lawns</i
Every time I've been to the Medici Fountain there are always at least three or four couples embracing and kissing near the pool. While I'm sure not every French person is enamored of PDAs (the original PDAs, that is, not the tech ones) there does seem to be, overall, greater acceptance of them than in the U.S....although the U.S. is, in turn, far more accepting than a place like Zanzibar. ("Public displays of affection such as kissing are not customary and generally considered offensive, unless behind closed doors."

Capo: You really made me smile. I met a man on my first day in Paris last year and I have lovely memories of strolling along the Seine with him as he tried to steal his first kiss. As we got to know each other, I found he could be shy about kissing in public, and I tried explaining that very song to him! His answer was so earnest and serious that it became a little joke.
I returned to Paris this Spring and we had a chance to spend some time together. I have to say my favorite kisses were in the little neighborhood gardens, just sweet moments amoung beautiful flowers and little paths and benches.

I found (through lovely experience) that one does not plan these Kisses ahead, you might be in a market or crossing a street, looking at the Seine or the Eiffel Tower, it will just suddenly overtake you or your partner and the Kiss will happen.
Enjoy it

But why are "Kisses like bright flags hung on holidays"?
Visit http://www.jmdl.com/glossary/entry.cfm?id=22
and it might even give you a site for a kiss. Let me know how you get on.

If you can read French, the Paris centred publisher Parigrammes has published a guide called "Où s'embrasser à Paris", which is their best-seller title. Quite comprehensive, and available on amazon.fr

While standing under the Arc de Triomphe
watching a perfect Paris september sunset, my sweet wife had tears in her eyes as she put her arms around me and kissed me then said, Thank You for loving me, That was romantic. We are down to 42 days until we leave for paris.
