Best Paris city buses for touring?

There is an article which does not appear in English, only French, which goes into further detail about half the number of bus routes which will be affected:

As I explained, the work is predicted to be well underway by September 2018.

Nikki--I so agree with your points. If someone is willing to shell out the price of one Metro ride to test the bus system for oneself, what's the problem?
TDudette, our experiences in Paris have been the same as yours. Whenever possible, we walk. When we are short of time, we use the Metro. When we have time, we use the bus. We certainly would NEVER EVER do the HOHO again--ours got stuck at the Louvre. We were off the thing and never returned.
We HAVE used HOHOs in London and Dublin, and might do so again because the routes served our purposes well.

Here are a few bus routes we have enjoyed that took us through areas of the city we otherwise might not have seen:
75 - Pont Neuf to Danube (for walking around the Mouzaïa neighborhood) or Mairie du 19e (for the Butte Chaumont park)
46 & 56 - Gare de l'Est to/from Château de Vincennes. The 46 goes via Place Daumesnil and the Porte Dorée. The 56 goes via the Place de la République and the Place de la Nation.
72 & 52 - To/from the Parc de St. Cloud. The 72 begins at Hôtel de Ville and follows the right bank of the Seine. The 52 goes through the 16th, around the Arc de Triomphe, past the Madeleine, and ends at the Opéra.
Like some have mentioned above, we have seldom found the buses crowded except at rush hour. It's good to start your bus rides at a terminus where you can usually get a seat.
