Best maps for driving through Germany and Switzerland

I'm going to be driving through Germany and Switzerland this summer. What maps would you recommend as best for helping me find my way? I'm going to have a GPS in my rental car, but want to make sure I have maps available as well. Thanks for your help.

For driving anywhere in Europe I recommend Michelin maps. You can easily get whole country maps at travel stores and at sites like amazon.com. For more detailed regional maps, visit www.thesavvytraveller.com.

Are you posting the same question multiple times on the same day until you get the answer you want? What's the point?

Never had a GPS; never got lost, and use Michelin maps.
So what's the big deal?

i like the kind of magizine book maps that you can get in gas stations in europe...i prefer them if they have a binding of rings so they are easy to keep open on your lap...

many are called ordinance maps...

plan to spend $10-15 for each....

I swear by the magazine-style Shell Atlas that you can buy in Germany. It treats Germany and a lot of Switzerland, plus bits of other adjacent countries at a scale of 1:400,000 which means 1cm = 4km, enough for very precise planning.
