Best Location to stay in Paris

We are a family of 4 visiting Paris for 3 days in June looking for accommodations near major attractions for approximately $200-$300 per night. We will be using public transportation. We are open to any type of accommodations, any recommendations? Thanks.

After much study I have picked "Aux jardin du trocadero" hotel for our Anniversary next weekend it has Eiffel Tower views & is in the 1st Arr. It was a toss up between that & the Hotel Westminster near the Louvre but the view was highly reccommended. I can let you know how I get on.
The metro system is the easiest way to negociate Paris so anywhere is near.

I like staying in the 1st arr near the Chatelet metro station because it is very central. This area would be a good base for your touring.

Another good option would be near the Opera at the newly renovated Intercontinental. This area has hotels, restaurants and, of course, the famous department stores.

There is also a second Intercontinental near the Louvre that is well situated.

On the other side of the Siene you could also try St Germain which is very lively and active. There is a lot of affordable hotels there which are not very expensive. If you want a area that is a bit more quiet than try the area around the Eiffel Tower. This area is nice but I think it is a little to far to the side of the city.

It seems like with a family you may need a bigger chain hotel. Be careful because many of these are not in city center.

Hi smoky,

My favorite hotel in Paris is the Hotel Bonaparte, 61 Rue Bonaparte in the 6th.
Tel 33 1 43 26 97 37
FAX 33 1 46 33 57 67

You can get a triple for about 160E or 2 doubles for about 120E ea.

P.S. If you want a nice small boutique hotel try the Hotel Britannique which is in the 1st near the Chatelet metro Station. I have also stayed at the Relais de Louvre but I like the Britannique better. If you want cozy and atmospheric try the Caron de Beaumarchais in the Marais. The Axial beaubourg is a modern hotel in the heart of the Marais and also well situated!

I've just returned from a trip with my family of 5 and have this advice: After you have gathered all the recommendations you can, plot all of them on a map, then find the metro stations and study a metro map. (The Paris Map Guide is good for this.) Most hotels are "near" a metro station, but a 15 minute walk can feel very long to a family with tired feet...5 minutes or less would be much better. Also, some hotels are near metro lines that really don't go to very many of the common destinations without changing trains a few times.

I'm not saying to choose your hotel based soley on these facts...but once it's a toss up between 2 or 3, you would be wise to base your final choice on proximity to a good metro line.

My wife and I have stayed at 2 hotels in the 6th. Both are close to a metro station. Go to google and type in either- we like both and will return to one this fall.
> Hotel Le Sainte Beuve
> Hotel Pas des Calais

Check them out. Neither will disappoint you.
