These beaches are beautiful, but will be crowded during the summer. Most of Europe is on holiday from June to August and they will descend on the Med. They are on the east side. You will not find Michelin restaurants on this island, although there are many luxurious hotels, best food is the local cuisine and not to try and find upscale. It's a mix of Greek, Turkish and Middle Eastern cuisines. This is part of the culture that you claim to seek. Many antiquities on this island, English spoken everywhere. Americans don't know this island.

There are many destinations in Europe which meet your criteria.
- My first choice would be Corsica - also because it is very scenic with spectacular red cliffs and sandy beaches.
- Another option is Turkey (e.g. Antalya) with very warm seawater, spectacular beaches, good food and breathtaking history in the hinterland.
- Algarve in Portugal is another spectacular coast.
- Mallorca has crowds, but also secluded coves and everything you want.
- Crete would be an option with lots of history (although food in Greece is generally not top-notch).
- Cote d'Azur has beautifual beaches, excellent food and lots of history and culture, but may be crowded in July and August but not in June.
