Gstaad! It was perfect, had shopping, skiing, apres ski, etc. Great little Alpine hotels, a castle on the hill, and even an ice skating rink in the midst of town.

Like you put it there under your Christmast tree, the train circles the valley as it comes into town.

The food is wonderful, and you can get about any cuisine you'd like. Dinners are late.

Everything is in walking distance, even in the snow. We stocked up on lovely ski wear in clearance bins in front of the shops.

Enjoy!

We've done both Salzburg and Garmisch Partenkirchen during the after Christmas through New Year time frame and found them both lovely with lots of opportunities for great Christmas feeling and for wonderful day trips to the cute villages surrounding them.

Just realized that I and others are reponding to a two year old message. Oh, well. Hope it helps someone with similar interests for this year and next.

The question was posted on 12/18/06. I wonder where the OP went, since he/she never wrote again.

Hi losangeleseurope,
Are you still going to Paris in December? Did you find your small town Christmas?

Merry Christmas.
