Best Beach Resort in the UK
Hello All,
I was wondering what would be the best place to spend summer holidays in the UK?
I know places like Brighton, Bournemouth etc but I was wondering if there are any hidden gems, maybe not so well known but really amazing?

Oh, come on. We're a tiny island, cramped with people and with all modern media. Do you really think something "really amazing" is going to stay hidden?
We certainly have more than our fair share of stunningly beautiful beaches (For example, at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/de...-best-beaches/ And any other list you'll get by googling will have 20 different beaches, and they'll be as beautiful) Most of the photos are reasonably accurate because they're freezing year round, so no-one wants to go there unless they're walking a dog or playing beach cricket. They're mostly (except in Devon or Cornwall in summer) just as empty as in the photos any day of the year.
The truth is that in Britain "Best beach resort" is a complex oxymoron. If it's a great beach visually, it won't be a resort. If it's a popular resort, it'll have a long, dull, flat expanse of sand (covered by tide half the day) and a lot of faintly tacky "attractions" along its seafront. If it's a resort and not popular, in almost all cases it'll be a social catastrophe, with little more than non-functioning 1930s amusement arcades and a lot of UKIP posters.
Don't get me wrong. Even the tackiest dead resorts can be terrific places for walking dogs (mine can't decide whether they prefer New Brighton, Southport or West Kirby). They're rarely as good as the Great Deserted British Beach fronting dense woodland (they much prefer Formby and Holkham over any of the resorts). Never as picturesque as the Great Beach with a Castle (Bamburgh beats them all).
And there are beaches - like North Berwick, St Andrews or Craister - in places they and we love staying in. Best of all, most of that group are chilly enough to offer wonderful walks in the muggiest of summers. But they're absolutely NOT resorts.

@janisj I am not collecting information for my blog, which I am even surprised anybody is reading!! and for which I don't even have any ads.. Come on..
And I am not from England actually that's why I am asking.
@flanneruk I've seen this list before... and I actually I visited Cornwall but I am not sure if it felt right. The scenery was amazing but sooo cold.
Also bournemouth was nice but again not sure.
Regarding Blackpool mentioned I've heard contradicting things about it but I think I want to try it one time!! What's good there?

well it's not always cold - Gyllyngvase beach at Falmouth was crammed full on Bank Holiday Monday with lots of very happy hot people.
but for a slightly better chance of getting good beach weather there are some superb beaches in North Devon - Saunton Sands, Braunton, Croyde, Woolacombe - all excellent.
They are my favourites.

That's the point.
By definition, people who want "beach holidays" are mindless wimps. Mindless wimps can't deal with civilised weather, so they have to fly to somewhere they'll get skin cancer.
God designed Her greatest beaches in countries where you need moral fibre to use them. Our beaches are the world's finest because She made sure they'd frighten wimps away.
From Fowey to St Andrews (even I concede they get a bit challenging further north), OUR beaches stimulate the brain. If they're not for you, that's because they're not meant to.
If you really believe Cornwall's "sooo cold", you're the problem. Not Cornwall.
Just tough up.

I see you have modified your profile . . . deleting the Sheffield bit and the link to your blog.
As has been mentioned -- if Cornwall was too cold for you, than no beach location in the UK would meet your criteria -- not a one. ANY beach can have decent weather, but they can ALL also have cold weather.

@annhig Thanks so much! Your recommendations look amazing! Looking at the pictures it's like these places are in the Mediterranean! I might check-them out regardless of weather.
@BritishCaicos they all look amazing and technically British but I think I am looking for somewhere I can drive to
@flanneruk you can get skin cancer in Antarctica you know!
@janisj are you stalking me? And yes I live in Sheffield is not a secret but I am not from England, is it that hard to understand?
please don't reply, I am not here for an argument I just want to collect a few opinions and book my holidays.

Are you collecting info for your blog as janis is positive of and if so what is wrong with that? I see nothing wrong with it. Wonder what janis sees wrong with it?
Much ado about nothing it seems.
If you've never been to Blackpool or know much about it you are not English!

I am such a sucker for these beach huts.
My freind lives in Falmouth and they have such sunny days and blue water.

She owns the sire of my dog and they are always running along the beach and water. They surf but in wetsuits.>>
that's lovely, Macross. DS likes swimming at Falmouth - but he won't wear a wetsuit though I've offered to buy one for him. is you friend interested in music? - DS and his friends will be performing, along with lots and lots of other people, in the Shanty Festival at Falmouth next weekend - it's one of the biggest free music festivals in the world!
