I don't think you can go wrong with the Hotel Claris. We stay there last June and loved it. Our family had two rooms, both which were unique. The roof pool is small, but the views of the city from there are great. Location is also excellent, close to upscale shopping.

After much thought, deciding to sacrifice a swimming pool for several nights, and an excellent score in the Condé Nast Gold List and Reader's Choice, I have booked The Ritz.
With various comments regarding the room size, and level of soundproofing at The Claris, in addition to inconsistent standards of service, 225EUR+ 7% tax seemed too much to be paying! The Ritz which is slightly more expensive seems a much safer bet, and more like the beaux arts style Hotel Grande Bretagne which I enjoyed so much.
Just thought I would share this with the forum who have been very helpful in my making this decision!

That said, once again I am still so unsure, whilst this may seem petty quibbling, any faults with an hotel always spoil my stay and cause uneccessary hassle!
Claris - standard rooms small, no twin vanitites. Breakfast not consistently good, swimming pool tiny, no spa treatments offered. Ritz - old world, old school, classic, no pool, large rooms, excellent food, spa treatments. Both of these have a central position.
Grand Marina Hotel, new, modern, pool, service, food, not so centrally located and a little cold looking, reminds me of my office. Hotel Arts, seems like the guests there are badly behaved in a nouveau way - read reports of drunken skinny dipping in the pool at night, not suitable at that price. Also in the same article a lift falling between floors, certainly not my thing.
So it seems between the Ritz, and Grand Marina, or perhaps Claris if someone can convince me it really is worth the money!
Thank you for reading my musings!

Hi, I'm working on review of the 5 star Luxury hotels in Barcelona which you may find useful. I've completed the Arts Hotel review and am now working on The Grand Marina, Claris, Ritz, Melia, and Meridien Hotels. I've taken photos of both the hotels and surrounding areas which will give you a clear picture of what it would be like to stay in each hotel. The URL for the Art's hotel review is http://www.barcelona-tourist-guide.c...barcelona.html
I'm aiming to complete the reviews of the other 5 star hotels in next week (or so). Hope you find this useful.

I'm just back from a four days trip to Barcelona and loved it!!! We stayed at the Grand Marina Hotel. This is definitely THE place to stay in Barcelona! We checked out some other 5 star properties like Claris, Ritz, Le Meridien ... and for different reasons would not recommend any of them. The Grand Marina is in a wonderful location, the stuff and service is excellent, the views are breath taking. Be sure to ask for a room facing the yacht harbor (north west wing of the hotel), not the Montjuic and industrial harbor side. And ask for an upscale room with a balcony and a high floor (!!). Best rooms are #706-708) If you really want to splurge take a corner suite (again ask for a view of the yacht harbor).
Have fun
