FoFoBT, thank you SO much for such kind words!! You are a real gracious and generous soul!

Palq, I know we have quite a lot in common, too -- from our love of Switzerland to our love of train travel, to some political views. I would be happy to hoist a glass and with you somewhere in CH --

I am going to defend the views of Swandav here.

As stated above, there is a HOOTER'S on the main street in town. There is also a casino. There are also some VERY tacky souvenir shops selling cheap, fake designer sunglasses and faux pashima shawls.

The area around the Interlaken West train station is positively horrid.

Yes, there are some nice areas of Interlaken, especially the area around the Beau Rivage Hotel at the Interlaken OST end of town.

But, with Wengen, Lauterbrunnen, Grindelwald, and Murren just a short train ride away, there is NO reason to stay in Interlaken.

I would only stay in Interlaken if I was staying at the Victoria or the Beau Rivage and I was younger and wanted to go out and party, or if I had teens with me and they wanted something to do (a teen girl would probably enjoy the shops in Interlaken).

I looked at Stu's photos and it looks like he was in Interlaken in the Fall. Interlaken would probably not be that bad in October. But, in the summer months it is definitely CROWDED.

During the summer months, 5 thousand people a day travel up to the Jungfrau. Most of these people are probably staying in Interlaken.

Another thing that is bothering me is that Pal keeps harping on the SWISS PASS.

I have crunched my numbers, and I save about 130 CH by purchasing the Half-Fare Card over the SWiSS PASS.

The Swiss Pass is not for everyone.

You have to do your homework.

P-P-P, you know me.

Interlaken - love it or hate it it seems! I love it many do not - nice is indeed in the I of the beholder.
