Berlin to Copenhagen
My husband and I are travelling to Europe in April to visit my folks in Belgium and onwards to Berlin to visit a friend. We’ve booked some accomodation for four nights in Copenhagen at the end of our trip as that’s where we fly out of back to home. My question is - we have about 6 days in between leaving Belgium and arriving at our accomodation in Copenhagen which is probably too long to stay in Berlin as we were more hoping for 3 nights or so there.
Would love some recommendations of: somewhere else to stay before or after Berlin that is perhaps a little more idyllic then a big city but still accessible via train journey between Berlin and Copenhagen (as we won’t have a car, just relying on plane or train travel!) or perhaps day trips from Berlin to make it more exciting? or any other ideas I might not have thought of! It seems flying isn’t the most economical option from Berlin to Copenhagen with luggage so train travel seems like a nice idea (and catch some sights whilst we’re at it!)
thank you Fodors community for any help you might be able to give!

Nice places to dawdle along the general route Belgium-Berlin-Copenhagen are Aachen, which is right over the border in Germany; heading down the Rhine with possible stops in St. Goar or Bacharach; the city of Mainz is nice for an overnight; the university town of Marburg has unique character; Dresden is worthwhile if it is not too far out of the way. I'm sure others will have opinions about favorite towns along this route. On the way to Copenhagen, finally, Luebeck is really worthwhile.

I did Berlin to Copenhagen by train in 2015. My route was Berlin - Schwerin - Bremen - Lubeck - Copenhagen. I had stayed in Potsdam before Berlin. My TRs are here (links at the top of the page):

I took rather longer than you have, and I think you are shortchanging Berlin, but I would suggest Potsdam at least for a day trip, and Schwerin or Lubeck for relaxing.
