Berlin Hotels

Is the Mitte the best area to stay for a first time visitor? Trip focus is on architecture, historical sights, museums, photography. Preference is for easy access to public transportation. Shopping and nightlife (other then a nice dinner and a few drinks) is not a big priority. Will take a day-trip to Potsdam. Looking for hotel recommendations in the 3-4 star range.

I recommend the Hotel Otto in the Charlottenburg District. Easy access to U-Bahn and S-Bahn. Great breakfast. Friendly staff. Been there several times. https://www.hotelotto.com/en/

I prefer east close to the Brandenburg Gate or the river or the Museums Island.
Stayed at Melia 3 times..liked it !
I also stayed in the West at Sofitel, so so.
