There's a smart, well-considered question. You can read guide books for . . . Berlin!

You can start with websites.
General information in English
http://www.berlin.de/home/English
U-Bahn (metro) map: http://www.reed.edu/~reyn/transport.html#maps
Events lists: http://www.BerlinOnline.de/kultur/tip_magazin/kalender/.

Sites in German
Links: http://userpage.chemie.fu-berlin.de/BIW/d_berlin-info.html
http://www.berlinonline.de
Includes links: http://www.net4berlin.com/home.e.html
Festivals through the year: http://www.berlinerfestspiele.de
Nightlife: http://www.berlin030.de
Films shown in English and other non-German languages:
http://www.kino-berlin.de/011101/indexoriginalmovie0.html

The city has a vigorous and flamboyant nightlife, contasting with a history grey with the memories of Hitler and of Stalin.

Ben Haines, London

Some random ideas of things to do in Berlin (one of my very favorite places to visit):

1. Attend the opera. Berlin has several opera companies, and if you're a fan you'll have a great time. And if you've never seen an opera this would be a great time to start.

2. Take a walk in the Tiergarten.

3. Take the trains/subway everywhere.

4. Go dancing. There's something for everybody in Berlin, from techno to tango. If you like ballroom, check out the tea dances at the Meistersaal (right off the Potsdamer Platz; there's a web site you can find easily on google).

Dick, why would anyone answer your question? You provide no details at all as to when you are going, your budget, your family, your lifestyle, your interest, your desires, your language skills. Don't waste people's time with idiocy.

Did you take offense at my comment about the "smart, well-considered question"? Don't you think that your question is good? If you take offense at my comment, then that means you think I was being sarcastic, which means that you think your own question is not very smart, and not very well-considered.

I am not rude, I only pointed out one potential activity that for a Berlin trip would be very, very useful since you asked such a broad question.
