Belfast..yes or no
We are traveling to Ireland mid Dec for 5 nights having been to Ireland twice we were thinking of just staying in Dublin since we enjoy this area at Christmas time....however now we are wondering is it worth the train trip to Belfast for 2 nights? And if so is there a section of Belfast we would want to gravitate to.....again just looking for a fun city atmosphere...good food fun pubs...would probably go Fri/Sat train back to Dublin Sun AM.

Belfast has become very popular with tourists in the past few years especially since the opening of the Titanic Centre.
There is a great atmosphere around the city centre around Christmas time with a Christmas market at City Hall.
There are also some great pubs such as Kelly's Cellars in the hear of the city where there is good music to be heard.
Also Madden's.
There are also great taxi and bus tours of the city that are a highlight for many people.
As for restaurants, there are a growing number of world-class spots such as Ox, Deanes, and James street South.
Most people I have spoken to have enjoyed an excursion to the city, especially since it is relatively compact and very easy to find your way around. A day and night there would be about right, and you'll find the people amazingly helpful and friendly.
I would say you'd be missing out if you didn't go. It's a pleasant contrast to Dublin, which is on a bigger scale altogther.

We landed one time at Dublin and took the bus from the airport to Belfast. We had booked a black cab tour at 1:00 and our hotel kept our suitcases. Lunch after at the Crown and next day we did the GOT tour of the coast. McCombs was great, smaller bus. We went again last year and still have not seen city hall which is on my list. A lot to do there and really liked the vibe. We took the bus back to Dublin city and checked into our apartment. I so wish I had the budget for the Europa hotel.
