We already booked Hotel Sa Riera near Begur (5 miles) which seems perfect (not the best hotel in the area but we intend to be out and about). There's also Hanoi right in the heart of Begur which calls to me....
Kja - you're so sweet. You're right -no bad, just difficult.
Today at 8:13 Eastern standard time we are at - drive from Barcelona to Cadaques and arrive at Begur late. Next day do Begur and Parafella (sp?). Then leave and do Girona (and Game of Thrones for my son) on the way (out of the way) to Tossa de mar. Enjoy Tossa de mar the next day. Go to Sitges for our last 2 nights and do either the mountain town or ruins and then hit the airport to London to see my mom receive her Noble/Rumelhart prize at 87 years old.
Such a hard life hahaha. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We could have such worse difficulties right?

FWIW -- I usually find the driving times estimated by google maps and viamichelin.com quite reasonable, and so was surprised when my TomTom added LOTS of extra time for getting to Cadeques. AND it took even longer -- MUCH longer -- than the TomTom estimated! Too, there were parts of that drive where the wind was so strong that I could barely keep my car on track. I'm sure that the winds could have been unusual, but that shouldn't have figured into the the TomTom estimates. I don't know the reasons for the differences among estimates -- or the differences from experience -- but I would feel remiss if I didn't mention it.
My sincere congratulations to your mother!

I just noticed that you have two different postings, posted on the same day. I answered on your other one. In the future, to avoid confusion and duplication it would be best to not run two different threads.

I personally would stay in Begur, Hotel Hanoi is about a 2 minute walk if that to the main town square.. it's a budget hotel but was renovated about 18 months ago and some of the roooms have Balconies. The other side of town is hotel Cluc, another cute well priced hotel In a great location in town...
More upscale the Aguiclara which also has a brilliant restaurant... Petit convent is also another well priced hotel in town...
The drive from Barcelona to Cadaques will take longer than you think, the last bit is very windy and if you get stuck behind traffic.... personally I think 2 days in Begur is not enough...
I think your idea of 4 nights in Begur and visiting Tossa from there a good one,

Thank you for all of your replies.
The only reason I resurrected the old thread was to find was Kja said to me a long time ago. Sorry if that was confusing. I'll stick to this one.
You have all given us great advice.
Thank you
Ellen

Ellen, how are you getting around this area, from town to town? How are you getting from Tossa to Sitges? I noticed you will have a car at one point, but just curious if you will have it the whole time. We may end up going from Tossa to Sitges, but we prefer public transportation when it isn't too difficult.
Congratulations to your Mom!
Thanks,
Daria

I don't know Ellen! That is so hard to choose. I haven't even looked at Begur, and maybe I shouldn't because I am thinking we will do Tossa and Sitges and I don't want to get further confused. Haha. We don't like moving too much with our kids, and won't stay anywhere less than 3 nights - 4 is better.
I guess if I were you I would think about what you want to do in Tossa and Sitges. If I only wanted to go to the beach, I think I would choose Sitges because it looks so gorgeous, and is closer to Barcelona (so it will be easier to get back to your flight home, right?). If I wanted to do some more sight seeing, I would look at what the sites are that you can see from each, and then decide that way. Although it seems like you can see whatever sights you want to see in the Tossa area from Begur. So I guess if I was determined to stay in Begur, I would choose Sitges because you can see Tossa from Begur, but not Sitges. Just my two cents.
Do you mind me asking how much you paid for your rental car?
Given that it is further from Barcelona, what is the appeal of Begur?

Begur seems fabulous. It is the north where Cadaques can be reached. We must go to Begur. Smeagol - your words are very exciting!

That does sound very expensive- we rent all the time in this area ...
Try hertz or Avis direct.
Absolutely have your route out of Barcelona sorted- it can be very confusing... ( head for the AP7 - Girona)
