Beer in Rome

Our last night in Rome my husband and I went to a one of the sidewalk cafes with a big thirst. I saw two italian men at the next time having beer in large (green, I think) bottles. I ordered the same (Italian beer) and it was so good I wrote the name down. Now I can't find it. Does anyone have a clue from my memory of green bottles?

Well now, Julie,
Italian beer in a green bottle (you think) and a name you can't remember after ordering the same beer. How many bottles did you order!!!??!

Peroni is a really fine Italian beer as is Moretti. Both are available in the US. Peroni is, I think, the more popular and rightfully so.
I don't know about Moretti, but agree with Richard that Peroni does come in green glass. And my experience in Greece was bottled beer was always big -- 32 oz (well metric equivalent) bottles. Is that true when you order beer in Italy too?

Thanks for the two brand names. I'll try those. And, yes, it was a big bottle. It was really hot and I very thirsty -- it's no wonder I can't remember the name!

Another good beer in Italy is Nastro Azzuro. It's what I would call a premium pils. Comes in a blue bottle to match it's name in English of "Blue Ribbon."
