Beach in Sicily

Hi, my husband & I are planing our late summer trip to Italy (We live in Luxembourg and we are in desperate need for sun and beach). Since the trip is planned for mid September I thought Sicily would be our best option for good beach weather in Italy. Now, my question is: can anyone recommend a good hotel or appartment in the beach where we can spend these 5 days? (preferably sandy beach! although it seems that the coast is mainly 'rocky'). We are happy to do some trekking and sightseeing, I have heard that Sicily has wonderful scenary, however my main objective is to have a good beach as a base. I would love to hear your recommendations. Thanks a lot

Check out the Aeolian islands! If you can afford the $$$, try Panarea (sp?)

But anywhere you go in Italy in September is the same for beach weather. I bet Liguria is actually better. Check out Sestre Levante. Lots of sand.

Canm recall three locations for good sand beach in Sicilia and they are:
1. Cefalu, 2.Mondello and 3. Siracusa. of the three would pick Cefalu due to its size and wha tis available. Richard of LaGrange Park, Il..

Eraclea Minoa -- fabulous long wide sandy beach. Southern Sicily.

I would add San Vito lo Capo to your list. Nice sandy beach, and the town has plenty of restaurants. It is not far from here to the Zingaro where there are several hiking options.

Another vote for Eraclea Minoa. Or, one of the sandy beaches on Favignana (one of the Egadi Islands just off Trapani.)
