Bavarian driving tour in March

I am planning a trip to Germany and Austria in early March and was looking for some help. I'm spending 3 days in Munich, 2 days in Salzburg, and 2 days in Nuremberg. I am using hotel points, though I am looking for a nice, unique hotel between Salzburg and Nuremberg. I will have a car. Any suggestions on what to do and places to see would be appreciated.

I'd suggest passing through the Altmühl River valley and the towns of Weissenburg, Eichstätt, and Pappenheim on your way between Nürnberg and Munich. The valley's white cliffs and occasional castle ruins make for a scenic drive, and the relatively undiscovered towns along the way are full of charm, history, and architectural delights.

I didn't know an answer to your question about a place to stay between Salzburg and Nuremberg, but here's a little lesson on finding info on towns in Germany.

Try the name of the town name ".de" and well over half the time, you will find a good web site with tourist info. I used www.weissenburg.de just as an example (the first one on the list offered by russ) - - and lo and behold, tons of good info (though only in German, of course).

Fremdenverkehr - is tourist info

and once you click on that,

Unterkunftsverzeichnis - - is accommodations.

Three delightful looking hotels lised there, each with their own web page:

http://www.wug2000.de/ellingertor/
http://www.hotel-goldener-adler.de/
and
http://www.wittelsbacher-hof.de/

Best wishes,

Rex
We stayed in the Salzkammergut region of Austria (SE of Salzburg) in November and it was truly a beautiful area. It snowed while we were there and it gave the mountains a totally different look. It is an excellent day trip from Salzburg and can easily be accomplished in a day. Make sure to see Hallstat and St. Wolfgang if you go.

I did the Nurnberg to Salzburg route in March a couple of years ago.

I don't have any particular hotel recommendations, but I did see some great sites.

I was moved by Dachau concentration camp, just outside of Munich.

I thoroughly enjoyed all three of Ludwig's castles: Neuschwanstein, Linderhof and Herrenchiemsee.

Hitler's Eagle's Nest was not open, but I did want to see it.

I liked the salt mine tour outside of Salzburg.

Salt Mine tour in Berchtesgaden is great to do for a rainy day. You are underground and the tour is fun. Definitely try to fit that in.
