Ron, If after visiting the castles, if have some interest in King Ludwig, when you are in Munich there is a church (the name escapes me for now) in which the there is the crypt of Ludwig, plus a few other royal tombs. That is something you could go in & see in about 15 minutes & then leave.

Ron,
I didn't see any mention of Linderhof Castle just outside of Oberammergau. Though the castle is small, there are several interesting buildings, gardens, fountains, and, of course, the Venus Grotto that were beautiful. LudwigII really left Bavaria with some beautiful sites. It is best if the weather is nice because you walk the entire grounds going from building to building. However, we did it in the rain because, once captured, we couldn't leave until we saw it all. And there are live swans (the family symbol) wandering the grounds, and they are tame. What a nice perk to have a picture of youself feeding a swan (fairy tale for me . Again, only a few hours time, get English tours, and revel in some great Bavarian history. Have a wonderful time. BTW, I am taking my Mom in June and already have goosebumps just knowing she will get to see it, too.
Have a wonderful time.
F.
