Battle of the Bulge

I am interested in knowing how Battle of the Bulge tours/remembrances is set up and opinions about it. It seems to be a big add-on in terms on time. Worthwhile?

"It seems to be a big add-on in terms of time."

I don't know what this means. Is this an optional excursion from a cruise or land tour? Part of a larger excursion?... which includes what? Starting from where?

The Battle of the Bulge battlefield is large, something like 75 miles by 50 miles. There are multiple museums, memorials and cemeteries. A single-day tour would only focus on a very small part of the story. (Which is OK if you can identify what part interests you the most and find the right tour.) Whether any Bulge tour is "worthwhile" depends on your level of interest in this particular event in WWII history. I am personally very interested in world war battlefields and have structured itineraries to include places that are within reach of other sightseeing stops. But we don't cruise or take all-encompassing land tours. We are DIY and only occasionally take guided day-tours.

I agree with Jean -- your question is a bit vague. Is this a specific tour you've found on line or something offered as an add on to a group tour or cruise?? If so can you give us a link?

My Dad was in the Battle of the Bulge and I hired a private guide/historian for a full day because I was more interested in places my Dad and his platoon were during the Battle and was less interested in Bastogne and the headquarters where many tours concentrate.

It seems to be a big add-on in terms on time." Add on to what exactly?

"Worthwhile?" Worthwhile is a subjective term and without knowing more what you are talking about its hard to say . . .

Hopefully a helpful suggestion . . . I notice you have a long history of posting questions on the forum then never returning to post any follow ups or responses to the advice you've been given. Without some acknowledgement that you've at least read the info/advice offered it is REALLY hard to help.

janisj, your dad was in the Battle? Wow. Glad he made it through! Thank him (posthumously?) for his service.

Yes -- This is a link to the report that includes my day tour around the Ardennes/Battle sites ( Post #1 contains the trip's background and kismet that made the visit possible and post #26 is the relevant entry about the actual day ) I simply CANNOT believe that was almost eleven years ago!! Honoring my Father, Belgium, Amsterdam, London and TWO GTGs

Re-reading it I realize I hadn't made it clear -- I'd had no advance knowledge about the farm, Henri had done the research and he's the one who found the link between my Dad's platoon being under siege in the barns and the specific farm. Visiting the farm was a total surprise.
