Bath & Oxford

Next year some of my family want to go to Paris together. Paris is great but I have long wanted to visit Bath and Oxford in England and thought of taking the EuroStar from Paris to London and another train to Bath or Oxford. I'm seeking advice on the best way to travel this loop ending at Heathrow for the flight home. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You can get from London to Oxford by coach (1.5 hours) or train (1 hour, but ends up a little out of Oxford proper). I recommend the bus. You can get from Oxford to Bath by train. Oxford to Heathrow by coach (70 minutes). Maybe London to Bath, Bath to Oxford, Oxford to Heathrow.

Flying or taking the train into London only gets you half way there. A better option is to fly from Paris to Bristol on BA. Bristol is very close to Bath. So you can fly, then hop over to Bath - by train it only takes about 15-20 mins. Longer by bus.

Then you can take another train w/ one change to Oxford in about 90 mins.

And finally direct bus from Oxford to Heathrow -- less than an hour.

Above is only if you don't want to spend any time in London . . . .

Would agree with JoeTro about the circuit of London-Bath-Oxford-Heathrow. Seems the links will work best that way. There are great panoramic images from each on http://www.panoramicearth.com/index.php which will give you an idea of what you will find there.

Bath to or from Heathrow is surprisingly time-consuming: best by bus, but they're all about 2.5 hrs and go less than hourly.

Which is why janisj's right: Paris-Bristol (plane)- Bristol station (bus)- Bath (train)- Oxford (train) - Heathrow (bus)
