Basel's Middle Bridge
I wrote this so that if anyone is going to Basel they can know a bit more about the city. Basel, Switzerland the second largest city in Switzerland is also the home to the first bridge ever built on the Rhine river. The Middle Bridge is also referred to as the Central Bridge, was for many centuries the only crossing point on the Rhine between Switzerland and the ocean. In the beginning half the bridge was made of stone and the other half was mad of wood. The people of lessor Basel "poorer Basel" at the time, had to pay a tax to cross the bridge. The wooden part could also be lifted to limit the entry from lessor Basel and Germany. It's one beautiful bridge, I suggest if you make it to Switzerland do not miss Basel.
Check out the video we made of the bridge here http://bit.ly/c1Ogmn

Hi David,
Enjoyed viewing your video. We will be in Basel for two days in July before our river cruise to Amsterdam. I understand that the hotel will have free day passes for their local transport system to go all around Basel. Do you have a favorite restaurant there to recommend???? We are staying at the Swissotel Le Plaza.
