Bardolino

Hi

Looking at Bardolino for a holiday for myself and my wife in July.
Can anyone suggest good hotels at decent prices? Looking for somewhere with a pool and in a good area.

Thanks

Martin

I didn't stay in Bardolino but if you've never been, it is a very, very small and spotless town so you needne't worry about one area being better than another.

If you must have a view of the lake itself, then go for it, but one of the peculiar (to me) features of Bardolino was that the areas of town that were closest to the lake and a central shopping district were filled with holiday activitiy and crowds, but if you walked less than 3 streets away from the touristy center, into the more residential areas, it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. And yet, you were a 5 minute walk to the docks. It was kind of like walking around the back side of a movie set where a musical is being filmed on one side, and people are just hanging around doing nothing on the other!

Bardolino is on a slight rise, so it may be possible to have a lake view even in the back end of town. But if you are at all affected by noise, I would specifically ask any hotel if they are next to a bar or gelateria, because July surely brings out the crowds. But you might enjoy being in the thick of it!

May I suggest that you go one town north to Torri del Benaco? It's a much prettier town with a beach and some nice hotels.

Hi

Torri Del Benaco was actually my first choice but I couldn't find a hotel there which met my criteria (basically must have a swimming pool and be under 120eur per night for the room). If anyone knows of any hotels like that please let me know!

We ended up using a broadcast e-mail from one of the Lake Garda websites:

http://www.gardaworld.com/eng/default.asp.

Got a lot of responses (one hotel that looked very interesting, would not respond to direct e-mails. But they did respond to this broadcast e-mail service.) You might try it.
