MY top 5:
1. All things Gaudi:
- Casa Battlo
- Casa Mila
- any other building I missed - just walk along Passeig de Gracia
2. It's a TIE:
- Sagrada Familia - make sure you go up the stairs or elevator to get a good view of the internal architecture
- Parc Guell - make sure you have a glass of sangria from the little outdoor restaurant overseeing the park
3. Barceloneta area (the beach, boardwalk area - great restaurants, shopping, lots of palm trees and brilliant sunshine)
4. Las Ramblas -
5. Barri Gotic, the Cathedral square, and everything else.
A lot of people also like the Olympic park area.
Why don't you look up miniguides to the city? Fodors, for example, has this (I hope the link works):

Thanks isabela, I've looked up the miniguides, cityguides, etc but always like to get input from as many sources as possible and Fodorites seem to have special insights on various cities and restaurants that may not make the commerical guides.

You can download a free copy of Maribel's Guide to Barcelona to see what her top 5 are. She tends to be very insightful at time.

I second the bus idea - here's their website.
http://www.barcelonaturisme.com/?go=...ymdLLukFXjUQ==
OR
go to http://www.barcelonaturisme.com/ click on English to set the language, then click on Tourist on the left hand side, and
then click on Barcelona Bus Turistic
Compared to other major cities, this is a real bargain - 20 euros for 2 days, AND you get a little coupon book with lots of discounts such as half price admission to La Pendera (sp?), one of my fav Gaudi buildings, discounts off teleferc ride, etc.
There are two routes on you can take, and that's how I discovered another an often-overlooked gem - a wonderful area in the Pedralbes neighbourhood up in the hills on the red line.
Best thing you can do is take the bus and get off wherever it looks interesting. They come every 5 to 25 minutes, depending on the season.
