BARCELONA - THINGS TO DO?

Hi all Fodorites,

I'll be travelling from portugal to barcelona next September for 9 days. I'll be staying with a friend so I won't be needing any advice on accomodation and i've already made reservations for the (really cheap) flight at vueling.com (70 euros for return ticket with all taxes and charges included!!!!).
But now i need some suggestions for things to do in Barcelona.
I've been surching the site for interesting things to do and see in Barcelona but i'm either failing to see them or there just aren't many suggestions (which i find unbelieving). I've got most of the estalished stuff down (like the Sagrada familia, parc Guell, Las ramblas).

So if you have any off-the-track suggestions on where to go for music, food, shopping etc. please do share.

Thanx
Sappa

Yeah, you are straight up missing the ideas because Barcelona is all over this board. Searching "barcelona," though, returns vague posts.

A lot of my posts deal with Barcelona (most of them, in fact), so if you click on my name you will find lots of advice. Also, on my "moving back to Barcelona" thread, I posted my BCN hotlist, which is what I tell everyone to do and have yet to get any complaints.

What is it you all are looking to do? Will you spend all 9 days in Barcelona? Where does your friend live? Has he had any suggestions?

Be sure to see the Saldana (or even be in it!) Every Sunday in front of the Cathedral the Saldana is held. It is a dance. All the locals show up after church & change into their espadrilles & dance the day away! There is a orchestra & it is great fun!

Visit the Roman Ruins under Modern Day Barcelona. Fascinating!

Visit the Olympic Village.

Visit the Picasso Museum.

I am sure your friend will have plenty of ideas. Also buy a guide book. There will be plenty of ideas in there.

Dear Laclaire,

Tanx for the reply.
I found your thread (moving back to barcelona) and took notes off your hotlist. I'll be sure not miss el bar de la Ciutadela and the Ateneu Barcelones. My friend has just moved to barcelona about a month ago and although i'm sure he'll have many ideas it doesn't hurt to ask other people right? I'll probably be staying the whole time in Barcelona so i'll have plenty of time to discover it.

Also had the chance to read about all your paperwaok mishaps and hope everything's set up for you this coming 9th.

Dear Cheribob: thank you for your post. That Saldana thing really sounds interesting (now i just have to convince my friend to join in the dance lol!)

Thanx for the other suggestions. i'm making up a list of to-do things and it's growing wild. Can't wait to get on that plane...

Hug

FYI: it is the Sardana, not Saldana.

And yes, my paperwork is done and I am on my way come July 9th.

Woo hoo!
