Free week in Dolomites or Lake Maggiore?

I am so lost and confused now, I have been offered 1 free time-share week in either Madonna di Campiglio or Craveggia which is like 15-20 mi. west of Lake Maggiore. My fiance and I are flying into Milan, spending three nights in Como and Bellagio, then ??? We have to choose one of the two in the next 24 hrs. in order to get the time-share week.

Can anyone help?

What time of year? That may determine it. Also, do you like to hike, or would you rather sit by a lake? My sister's family spent a week in Madonna di Campiglio on a time-share trade, in July, and they loved it---they hiked every day.

Thank you for the info, we are leaving the first week of september. time share in craveggia won't work for us, it is at the top of a mountain reached only by cable car, LAST car returns at 5 pm!

(these time share things are very odd creatures indeed)

So, if not Madonna di Campiglio, then we pay, and yes, of course it will be worth it either way. I just wonder if there is enough to do around there for a week.

Hi again---Madonna di Campiglio is pretty quiet in the summer---it's a ski resort. Unless you want to hike every day (and the hiking there is world-class), there isn't much to do there but gaze at the beautiful Dolomites (which would be fine for me, but maybe not for you). If you have a car, it could be a base for exploring the region; places like Riva del Garda (and other places) on Lago di Garda; Trento, and the Alto Adige wine road are within reach.

Enzian, thank you for your help. The Tyrolean wine road is right up our alley. I am somewhat fearful of doing wine tasting in towns as far as Terlano, Appiano, etc. then driving back, especially since I don't know what the roads are like there.

It seems as though Lago di Garda would be close, but knowing mountain roads, I doubt it would be an easy drive after a late dinner.

I would love the time spent there in those majestic mountains had I ever been to Italy previously. Though I've not, so I believe I'll pay the price and base a week in Tuscany somewhere.

I really appreciate your help, thank you so much.
