Barcelona Spain Day Trips

Can anyone recommend day trips from Barcelona? Would a trip to Sitges work as a day trip? Can anyone recommend a winery day trip? Thank you.

Sitges is an easy trip by train - nice seaside town and beach - I would highly recommend Montserrat - the popular pilgrimage site up in the hills near Barcelona - take a suburban train and then shuttle train up to the monastery and church housing the famous religious icon the Black Madonna

or Figueras if interested in Dali and the eclectic Dali museum and many others.

I felt the same about Sitges as danon - Sitges is also one of Europe's premier gay resorts if that interests yous. Many people love Tarragona.

Trip to cava country - Sant Sadurni d'Anoia. Train station is steps away from Freixenet or taxi to Cordorniu or many others. Train is about 45 minutes from Barcelona.

A visit to the Priorat would be more interesting then doing the standard Cava tour, but it would be a long day.

Another very doable day trip is to Zaragoza, one of Spain's most beautiful cities. The trip is about 90 minutes by and there are several trains each day. Among the very worthwhile sites in Zaragoza are El Pilar, the Cathedral, and multiple Roman sites.

Thank you all for your quick responses! This will help us put our plan together. From this forum it looks like Valencia is a nice city to spend a few days in after Barcelona. I'm also looking at Mallorca but not sure if it is a good bet for me and my niece as we don't really want to rent a car. We are thinking 10-12 days total. Thanks again.

There is good public transportation in Mallorca too. but do you want modern beach resorts or a really old-world city like Valencia - which I loved a lot and it has a nice beach now too.

We did a trip to Montserrat and one to three medieval villages through Viator. Both were very good, and the guides were terrific.
