we have a 7.30am train to San Sebastian, how early should we plan to be at the station by ?

Do you have tickets?
If not, I would purchase them ahead of time,
If you have to purchase ticket at the station, there is a window for the trains leaving on that day, but how long
the lineup would be ...who knows?
Give yourself some time to find the right platform....it is a busy place.
We usually get there at least 20 minutes before (if we have tickets.)

Yes, IMO

Probably, I usually get there earlier as I don't want to risk being late or feeling worried if I can't find something. And you can't predict transportation, so I build in time to make sure I get there when I want. I think they have security checkin on some trains there, also, and it was more like boarding a plane. If you are actually there at the station a half hour ahead, it should be fine.
