Barcelona Hotel - Murmuri
Hello. We will be in Barcelona in October this year. We are in our 60s (but young at heart!). We like smaller hotels and an outside area is a real plus. I am trying to decide between the Hotel Murmuri or the Hotel Grandos 83. Can anyone recommend one over the other? Would appreciate any comments. Thank you!

I stayed in both ... In 2013
At Granados I prefer a room in the back...it on a lovely street with many restaurants.
kind of modern and hip
Murmuri is a bit more central , more expensive, on a most beutiful av. In Barcelona
lined with shops, caffes, restaurants.
If the cost is not an issue, I would probably go with Murmuri.

I would say that the Murmuri is marketed more toward younger travelers, while the Majestic, its parent hotel, a 5-star GL, is designed more for the sophisticated traveler, but both are great. We use them for our clients and highly recommend both.

My husband and I, in our mid fifties, and friends 60-ish, stayed at the Murmuri in October, and enjoyed it very much. Do know, tho', that it is a long walk all the way in to the Barri Gotic area from there - so if you wanted to stay more central to that, this wouldn't be your pick. We liked being in a less crowded area.
We took subways to a lot of places. I've been meaning forever to do a trip report but haven't gotten to it yet.

My daughter and SIL stayed there on my recommendation from what people said here on Fodors. While they liked the location, the street, they didn't like the hotel. The rooms were small, and they couldn't open the windows because of the odors wafting up from the restaurants below. Also said too expensive. This was late last Sept.

The rooms at the Murmuri are small. The location is great–on Rambla de Catalunya 1 block away from the more crowded Passeig de Gracia–and there are many cafes, etc near there. I think it's preferable to staying in the Gothic Quarter, unless you want to stay in one of the beautiful 5 star hotels in the Gothic Quarter–the Mercer, the Neri, the Serras.
