My husband and I will be flying to Barcelona from Birmingham,UK in Sept.We have abt 8 to 10 days to spare and will probably spend 4 days in Barcelona and the rest in a town/village outside of Barcelona.As we do not drive,this place wld need to be easily accessible from Barcelona. We do not intend to spend alot of our time travelling, so would prefer to stay put at one or two places for a longer period of time.Pls cld you advise the best flights, accomodations and towns? Thanks and best regards. <BR>P.S This is our first trip to Spain, so any advice is more than welcome.

For a few days at the beach you can take a train from Barcelona to Sitges, a pretty seaside town popular with Spanish and foreign visitors alike. <BR> <BR>It's only a short train ride (less than an hour, from memory).

Try Tossa de Mar - about 40 km north of Barcelona, and easily accessible by bus. We were there in September 1999 and didn't even bother booking accommodation - just went to the tourist office right beside the bus station, they provided us with a map and an accommodation listing, and we strolled into town and got fixed up in no time. Tossa has a lovely beach, and a very nice old town with a castle. <BR> <BR>Another place you could try is Calella de Palafrugell - we rented an apartment there for a couple of days. It's not so easy to get to - you have to get a bus to Palafrugell (don't hand around too long there - there's not a lot to see) which takes about two hours, and then a shuttle bus to Calella. You could also get a taxi - it's only about three miles away, but a bit far to walk. Calella has lovely little beaches, very clear water and some nice bars. It's very quiet at night though. It's within walking distance of Llafranc - another nice place to stay. <BR> <BR>Drink loads of cava and eat plenty of seafood. It's a lovely place to spend some time.

As I'm from a region where beautiful beaches are aplenty, I'm more inclined to visit a nice little traditional Catalan village/town that has got wonderful views of the countryside/mountains/vineyards.Any idea if this is possible travelling from Barcelona?
