Will be in Barcelona for one day( 12 hours), off a cruise.
Any suggestions as to the best to see?

Placa Cataluna and Las Ramblas are a MUST SEE. Gaudi House. There is also a park on top of the mountain above Barcelona -- I forget the name of it.. but has a great view.

Biggest tip: WALK WALK WALK. everything is stunning.

Do you mean Park Guell? Guadi's park. It's been a while since I've been there. Beautiful!

Las Ramblas is a tourist trap- nothing much to see there
Get on the hop-on-hop off bus,

Dear barry3040,

I recently visited Barcelona for two days and visited the following places:

1. La Ramblas
2. La Sagrada Familia
3. Placa Catalunya
4. Bari Gothic
5. Port dell area
6. Parc Guell
7. Montjuic
8. La Pedrera from outside

Since you have only 12 hours, visiting all the places is impossible. For such a limited time, I would recommend Parc Guell, Sagrada Familia,Placa Catalunya, La Ramblas, Port dell area in that order. Montjuic is also a beautiful place but it will take much of your time.

You can take Ho-Ho Bus, you will see the whole city within your time limit. But you really must see are:
1.Sagrada Familia
2.Parc Guell
3.Barri Gothic, El Born (central districts)

Enjoy your trip!!

Vote for Sagrada Familia - amazing structure and it is really unlike anything else in the world. Plus, if you are in Barcelona, you HAVE to at least have some experience with Gaudi.
Ramblas is all kinds of fun, but in the end it is all tourists.

If you go down Las Ramblas, do go into the lovely "La Boquería"food market there on the right as you go down. They have great tapas bars inside also, and the fruit stands are beautifully displayed.

Just got back from Barcelonaa...didn't take the Hop on Hop off bus, but if you only have one day, that is likely the best way to wsee the sights. Don't miss Guell park, the highlight for us!

If you're feeling energetic - we took a tour with Mike's Bikes a few years ago - http://www.europeslegendarytours.com/barcelona.html . There were a good range of ages (and of fitness) and it was a lot of fun. It's a nice way to see the city.
