Baker Street to Stansted... A6 Bus?
Hi,
Does anyone have any experience with the A6 Bus to Stansted Airport?
Planning my parent's travel logistics. They have to catch a 11.20am flight at Stansted Airport on a Tuesday.
Is it a special bus with luggage compartments since it seems to end at an airport? Taking the train is too inconvenient and taking a cab is probably just exorbitant.
Cheers

No I've not, since the train and driving are so convenient for most people. Before dismissing the train, BTW, remember that the connection between it and the tube's Victoria Line at Tottenham Hale is convenient if you don't find your luggage difficult to shlep.
But the A6 IS a dedicated airport bus with large luggage racks, and is relatively easy to get onto if you're not too nimble.
Do remember though that, although its route out of London is one of the least congestion-prone, they're going round the top of London somewhere round 0900, and if they're on a low-cost airline punctuality is vital. Both available routes to Stansted from Golders Green (the last outward stop the A6 makes before the airport) have notorious rush-hour bottlenecks, affecting outbound traffic almost as much as inbound.
Contrary to the myths, London's trains and tubes offer the most reliable and punctual travelling, especially during rush hours. With buses or cabs - especially getting to Gatwick or Stansted - you should always build in a substantial cushion for delays.

Thanks flanneruk. Didn't know about the congestion north of London.
I'm taking into consideration that the Baker Street Station does not have lifts or escalators and am afraid that as they make their way to Tottenham Hale by tube. They'd need to carry their luggage up the stairs at any of the connecting trains.
As to driving, would there be any reliable and affordable airport transport service?

the A6 bus route won't be too bad going north in the morning. It's the afternoon that is horrible! Just leave extra time rather than trying to cut it too close.
If they were trying to go North in the afternoon I'd go any other way!

Tiger Lilly, I think I can see where you're coming from. If your parents comfort rather than the fastest route is your priority, then I think the Bus will give you some peace of mind. At least you'll be able to see them settled in their seats and won't have to worry about them dragging their bags around town. Just make sure they leave in plenty of time.
