We'll be traveling throughout Italy in June by train, has anyone had any problems storing the luggage at the train stations for 6-8 hours while touring the various cities ?

All Italian stations used to have manual left luggage. Some now have automatic lockers, but these are probably out of use for "security" reasons. Main stations should still have manual left luggage offices. I was there in September and used left luggage offices in Bologna and Venezia. The charge is, I think, about 3 Euros per item for up to 12 hours.

I know the luggage lockers in Venice train station are not being used currently. I'm not sure about an attended luggage room.

We left our luggage in the Florence station storage area while we took the bus to Siena for the day. It was very convenient and the charge was 3 euro per piece of luggage. No problems at all; this was in September.

We attempted to leave our luggage at the Milan train station so we could tour the city for four hours, but alas, the line to check in/out was very long and slow moving. Our solution (four adult travelers) was to take a taxi into the main piazza with our luggage and have two watch the luggage while the other two toured the Duomo, then vice versa, then wheel the luggage to the LaScala Opera House, same routine. Fortunately we all had small pilot case luggage. This was a Sunday in late October. Did not try to leave luggage in other Italian cities, but Milan was a nightmare - they seemed to have the same line for those leaving and claiming luggage. Enjoy your trip!<BR><BR>Mary Kay

We used the left luggage service in the Venice train station in October. When you get off the train, go all the way to the right. They take your luggage, you pay for the first 12 hours (3 euro per bag), and get a claim check. You pay the balance when you pick up your bags.<BR><BR>Anne
