Baggage Problems...What to do?

I am having some issues with my baggage....I will be on a 12 day trip, and I really hate toting luggage around. I used a sports bag last time I visited and didn't have enough room for all my clothes and the bag was heavy and I wish I had wheels on it.

But the problem is that if I get a larger suitcase, I worry about toting it everywhere....I will be in London for about a week, then off to a couple of other euro countries via plane, and back to London for a couple of days.

What is the best and most affordable luggage to use? How has other people dealt with luggage and multiple country visits?

I cannot afford to pay for hotel rooms in London that I wont be using while I travel to other countries...I will be traveling other countries for about 4 days total.

A number of years ago, we spent a week in Amsterdam, a week in Brussels, and one night back in Amsterdam before our flight home. The Amsterdam hotel let us store one of our bags there between our two stays.

Maybe you could leave a larger bag at your London hotel, and take a duffel for your four day trip. The duffel could fold up inside the larger bag when you're not using it.

When you arrive at the other euro countries via plane, can't you just drop off your luggage at the hotel you'll be staying at? Even if it's not check-in time yet, many hotels will hold your luggage in a room for you while you're out during the day.

And if you're not wanting to take everything with you from London after the first week, perhaps that hotel can keep some things for you until you return. We've done this before, where they put our things in a locked room, and we retrieved it when we came back. Saved us from lugging things we didn't need.

get yourself an inexpensive 21 inch rollaboard - it is plenty big enough and is all you should need. You might also want a (small) day pack to use while sightseeing - but I don't usually bother.

Then when you arrive in a new city go directly to your hotel and leave the bag there until you can come back and check in.

I'd go with a 24" rolling bag to check, plus a smaller one to take on the plane that will fit beneath the seat in front of you. Trying to cram enough things for a 12-day trip into one small bag would be a nightmare for me--and you may want to buy things along the way. Overhead bins are so crowded these days that I'd much rather check a piece of luggage and not have to worry about hoisting it up and down.

Go to ebags.com and check out the lightweight rolling bags they have for different trip lengths--you can get a good idea of what would work.
