Baggage Check in Florence Train Station?
Hi there all! I'm going to be returning a rental car on a Sunday in Florence. From what I can tell, and what Hertz told me, it is near the train station. It's the Hertz at Florence Downtown, Via Maso Finiguerra #33 (or Via Finiguerra Maso...I've seen it written both ways.)
We thought we would first go to the train station to somehow (?) store our luggage, return the car around 9 a.m. (or whenever it opens), and then tour the city for a few hours before taking the train out to Venice. Does anyone know about stowing luggage at the train station in Florence?
We would like to start our "tour" at the Accademia. Can we get a bus from near the train station to the Accademia or how would you get there? It looks to be about 2 miles from the Hertz area?? Maybe it's an easy walk?
Then I thought we would wend our way (on foot) back down to the Duomo, (I know the dome is closed on Sundays), on down to the Uffizi, then to the Ponte Vecchio. I wanted to ask everyone if this was viable distance-wise.
I know our time will be short, but this will be the 2nd week of our trip and I just think that we will be a tad tired to be spending hours and hours in more museums, duomos, etc. So I thought that spending an hour at each place would probably be more than sufficient for this trip. Save some time for a later in life visit!
I would like to call and make the reservations TOMORROW!!! for the galleries since we'll be there May 20.
Thanks so very much!

There is luggage storage at only the main station in Florence (Firenze Santa Maria Novella).
You can get info on the Florence bus system at the train station. The distances are not great, and you could walk the entire distance if you're in good shape.
Definitely make those reservations for the Accademia and Uffizi before you go. See the Battistero and Campanile when you go to the Duomo. Both open on Sundays.

Yes there is, it is located as you come to your right,
they charge a few euros per item, and you have to show a picture ID. It is neat and very well organized.
From the station you can walk most everywhere but as
Jean said coming out of the station to your right you can take any bus into town. One I know is 23, it will take you close to many attactions.

I forgot to tell you to go to www.mappy.com, and ask for" pedestrian walks". They will not only show you the best way to get from point A to point B but exactly how many miles between points.
Print the map and instructions and you will be all set.

Graziella5b you ROCK! Thanks so much. This mappy thing is EXACTLY what I've been looking for--and didn't even know it. And thanks too for all the info w/ the baggage.
I feel like I owe about 100 people a drink in Italy for helping me out with planning questions!
