Baden Baden-Wurtemburg ticket
Will be spending 1 week in Freiburg where we hope to visit Strasbourg, Colmar, walking in Black Forest area and more. Can anyone explain what the Baden Baden Wurtemburg ticket is and if it is worthwhile. We are 2 seniors from Australia. Also spending 1 week around Heidelburg/Neckar Valley area.
Thanks

Levlex,
Check out this page from the Deutsche Bahn website:
http://www.bahn.de/i/view/USA/en/pri...r-ticket.shtml
Here is what it says about the Baden-Württemberg ticket:
"Package price: 37 euros if you buy your ticket online or at the ticket machine. 39 euros if you purchase your ticket at the Reisezentrum.
This ticket is valid from Monday to Sunday for one day of your choice from 9 a.m. until 3 a.m. of the following day on Saturday and Sunday and bank holidays from 0 a.m. until 3 a.m. of the following day. It can be used on all local trains (Interregio-Express, Regional-Express, Regionalbahn, S-Bahn) and the entire transport system of the Verkehrsverbünde Baden-Württemberg, with some exceptions."
I don't believe the ticket will have validity over the border in France (Colmar, Strasbourg). It is valid for only 1 day within a week period and probably wouldn't be worth it for 2 people. I think it makes more sense for groups or if you are planning to cover a long stretch in one day (for example Freiburg to Heidelberg, where I think there my be moderate savings). Keep in mind that it is good for local trains, so you might end up with a longer train ride.
PS. Try to keep your "burgs" and "bergs" straight, or you may end up in the wrong place.

I don't think it works if you are in Freiburg, but if you are in one of the outlying towns, you may qualify for the KONUS ticket which gives you free train/bus transportation in the Black Forest area - check out Bavaria Ben's trip reports of the past 2-3 yeas at his website, www.bensbauernhof.com for his example using KONUS.

Some clarifications on the B-W ticket:
"This ticket is valid from Monday to Sunday for one day of your choice from 9 a.m. until 3 a.m": That should be Monday to FRIDAY.
"Package price: 37 euros if you buy your ticket online or at the ticket machine. 39 euros if you purchase your ticket at the Reisezentrum."
That is the price for 5 people. The actual price structure is 21€ for one + 4€ per additional traveler.
"It is valid for only 1 day within a week period" ?? It's good for one day - but you can buy it 7 days in a row if you want to.
Now to your transport issue, levlex:
Regular tickets to Breisach would cost 20.40€ round trip for two by train - then you'd need additional tickets for the bus into Colmar.
The B-W ticket at 25€ covers the train only to Breisach - you'd still need to pay additionally for the bus into Colmar from there.
A better choice is the more focused "RegioElsass ticket Colmar". It's a daypass you buy locally from the RVF (local transit authority) ticket machine in Freiburg (or, as I understand it, from the new DB ticket machines - try the RVF-Button -> Sonderangebote option. I think there's a RVF office right outside Freiburg's station as well.) It costs 21€ for 2-5 people and covers all public transport from Freiburg to Breisach and on the Südbadenbus 1076 route that runs to Colmar Gare from the Breisach station, and back, for 24 hours.

bigtyke's suggestion is a good one. Stay in nearby Kirchzarten or one of the other Konus towns and do daytrips to Freiburg, Hinterzarten (or other hiking destinations) for free. For a Colmar outing, the Konus Card also gets you to Breisach for free - then you just buy a bus ticket for Breisach-Colmar.
