Baden Baden Hiking

We're thinking of spending a couple of days in Baden Baden on our way to Kandersteg. I understand that there are some interesting hikes in the Black Forest that originate from Baden Baden. Any comments or recommendations you can share?

I have never hiked in the Baden Baden area, although I have stayed there on several occasions. The surrounding countryside is very tempting to stretch your legs. Even the area leading in from the autobahn is scenic. And the city itself invites exploration. The Black Forest lies just south of Baden Baden. It seemsw like the casino beckoned and monopolized much of my time when I was there!

Regards,

Jinx Hoover

We stayed at this hotel a few kilometers outside of Baden-Baden: http://roomsplus.worldres.com/script/gen_prop.asp?n=1982&hotel_ID=12183

Room s were nice, reasonable, and food/beer was very good.

It is situated literally at the top of a mountain outside of Baden Baden. Lots of walking trails in the area -- in fact, right across the street.

janebell- how I envy you! I have not hikes in the B-B area, but have hiked extensively in the Southern BF, around Titisee. Hiking in Germany is a wonderful experience. Check the German Tourist bureau site at "germany-tourism.de" for info on hiking and related links. An excellent site, if you speak German is "www.schwarzwaldverein.de". They list a route from B-B to Hornisgrinde where the trail meets the "Westweg" - the main N-S trail through the length of the Black Forest.
My best advice would be to stop at the tourist bureau as soon as you arrive in B-B for info on hiking in the area. As B-B is quite large I would drive, bus, or take a train a short distance out of the city and deeper into the forest to start my hikes. Have a wonderful time.

Thanks for the info. I just booked a couple of rooms in Badan Baden in June. Since we don't have a car, we decided to stay right in town at the Hotel Am Markt. I plan on visiting the tourist office as suggested and getting some tips on hiking. We hope to combine hiking and a spa visit.

Thanks for the websites Charlie, but I speak only a little German so I think I'd better just wait until I get there. Info in English is pretty sparse.
